On April 9, 2018, around 10:15 a.m., Topanga Division uniformed officers went in pursuit of a cold plated, brown, Ford Explorer SUV, that was "Lo-Jack" equipped. During the pursuit, the suspect (later identified as 29-year old Daniel Joseph Carver) exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The officers initiated a foot pursuit and chased Carver into the north/south alley, just west of the 6500 block of Corbin Avenue. Carver produced a revolver and fired several shots at the officers, which resulted in an Officer-Involved-Shooting. The officers fired their police service weapons striking Carver, causing him to fall to the ground. Carver was taken into custody without further incident.

Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) paramedics responded to the scene and provided Carver with emergency medical treatment. Unfortunately, he did not respond to the medical treatment and was pronounced deceased at scene by LAFD paramedics.

Carver's revolver, which contained six spent casings was located at scene and booked as evidence.

During this incident, one of the involved officers was shot in the left leg and transported to a local hospital where he was admitted for his injury and listed in stable condition. The second involved officer was also transported and treated for minor arm abrasions, a shoulder injury and was eventually released. Fortunately, no pedestrians were injured during the initial shots fired or as a result of this incident.
