Dash cam video has been released of the recent South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper-involved shooing during a traffic stop on Sept. 11 where one man was killed in Horry County.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety released the video to ABC 15 through a freedom of information request.

Last week, the 15th Circuit Solicitor's Office released a different video citing full transparency after talking to both sides and showing a video to the family.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler identified the man killed in the shooting as Tristan Vereen, 33, from the Longs area (Credit: Marion Vereen)

The trooper, who was also injured in the incident, was identified as Master Trooper W.B. Benton, according to Sherri Iacobelli, with the S.C. Department of Public Safety.

In a news release, SLED officials said Benton shot a man during a confrontation while conducting a traffic stop.

Officials said Benton was patrolling on SC 905 near SC22 when he attempted to perform a traffic stop for an equipment violation on a vehicle around 3:48 p.m.

In the dash cam video, it shows the moments from when Benton tries to pull over 33-year-old Tristan Vereen for what officials said was a broken windshield.

The video shows that Vereen did stop for a moment, but then tried to turn around and leave.

Benton, in the video, asks Vereen where he is going and why he's leaving and Vereen yells about not wanting to go to jail.

Vereen is seen in the video turning around again and driving away.

Benton follows Vereen and the chase ends about four minutes later when Vereen drives into someone's yard near Secondary 348 (McNeil Chapel Road) and jumps out of his car.

Officials said after the foot chase, a struggle happened between the two men. In those moments, in the video, you can hear the trooper yelling for Vereen to "get on the ground" and to "let me see your hands."

Officials said Vereen was tased. During the struggle, officials also said that Vereen bit Benton and tased the trooper in the neck.

The struggle ended, officials said, when Benton shot Vereen.

The dash cam video does not show the struggle. However, video from the 15th Circuit Solicitor's Office does show the struggle.

After Vereen is shot, in the video, you can hear Vereen screaming and say "he killed me." Benton is heard in the video saying "turn over or I’ll do it again."

A few moments later, Benton is heard in his car calling for an ambulance for Vereen.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler said Vereen died at Grand Strand Medical Center as a result of a gunshot wound.
