Body camera video captured the harrowing moments a Cookeville police officer and Putnam County paramedic pulled a driver from a burning vehicle earlier this week.

The Cookeville Police Department says officers responded to a vehicle accident on West 9th Street around 12:30 a.m. Monday. Officer David Baker and EMS Paramedic Justin Remillard were among the first to arrive at the fiery scene.

Remillard told Officer Baker the driver was still inside, and the two quickly worked together to hold back flames as Baker peeled open the driver's side door.

The video shows a front tire exploding moments before Officer Baker pulled the unconscious driver from the vehicle.

The driver is expected to be OK.

"Both Officer Baker and Paramedic Rimillard showed great bravery by putting their own safety aside as they courageously took action to help save the life of the driver," the department wrote on Facebook.
