A domestic violence suspect tried to take the deputy's gun and Taser while holding a child

Last night, this suspect on a domestic violence call grabbed the deputy's gun, tried to take the deputy's Taser, and tried his best to get shot. He was holding an innocent child with one hand when he grabbed the gun with the other.

Had he gotten that gun or Taser, I would be right here defending whatever force it took to get this deputy home safe. Thank God it didn't come to that.

The child was taken to the hospital to get checked out and the suspect was taken to jail, charged with child abuse, battery, resisting and depriving a law enforcement officer of means of protection. He was booked with no bond, and as of this writing he is still in jail on a $9,500 bond.

Deputy Antonio Fernandez was just hired earlier this year and I hope he knows Volusia County is grateful for him. Thank you deputies!
