North Salt Lake Police officials released dash-camera video Friday showing a pursuit last week that ended in a crash that claimed the life of an uninvolved driver.

The chase lasted just over 4 minutes and went south on I-15 from North Salt Lake to 1000 North in Salt Lake City. From there, the chase went west to 1200 West and then south to 500 North 1200 West, where the fleeing truck crashed into a Nissan Pathfinder driven by Thy Vu Mims.

Mims died at the scene and a passenger in her car was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The incident began around noon on Saturday when dispatchers alerted police in Davis County of multiple reports of a drunk driver. The North Salt Lake Police officer intercepted the truck on Highway 89 and attempted a traffic stop.

The video shows the officer stop behind the suspected impaired driver at the intersection of Highway 89 and Eagle Ridge Dr. The driver of the F-350, who police identified as 39-year-old Christian Facer, sped off and the officer pursued.

The video shows the fleeing truck drive into oncoming traffic on 1200 West to pass a vehicle. Shortly after, a police supervisor can be heard over the radio telling the officer to terminate the pursuit if the driver goes into oncoming lanes or is reckless.

The officer continued to chase the truck until the crash, according to the footage.

Facer was booked into jail earlier this week on multiple charges, including automobile homicide. Prosecutors are reviewing the case against him and criminal charges have not yet been filed, according to court records.
