Broken Arrow PD releases body cam of Officer Sherman being shot in the leg during a traffic stop

Police have identified the deceased suspect in the shooting as 31-year-old Cory Gene Batt. Investigators believe Batt died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. More information will be released when the Medical Examiner finishes their investigation.

A Broken Arrow police officer was shot in the leg during a traffic stop Saturday morning, Broken Arrow police said.

Officer Caleb Sherman attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 2900 block of E. Kenosha St when one of the occupants of the vehicle fired at least one shot at the officer, hitting him in the leg, Broken Arrow police said in a press release.

Sherman, who has been with BAPD for five years, was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, police said. He has since been released.

Police said the suspected shooter was found in the area dead. How the person died was not immediately released.

Police said they are are looking for two more persons of interest in the incident that were in the suspect vehicle during the initial pursuit but fled from the car prior to the shooting.
