Phoenix police officer avoids injury when bullet pierces windshield

A Phoenix police officer avoided injury Wednesday when a teenage suspect shot through the windshield of his unmarked police car, authorities said.

The Phoenix Police Department posted a short video clip Friday from inside the car, showing glass shattering.

Officers from the Gang Enforcement Unit and Neighborhood Enforcement Team were responding to a call about a male brandishing a gun near 25th and Glenrosa avenues at around 2 p.m., police said.

When they attempted to stop a vehicle at the scene, a 17-year-old boy in the passenger seat shot at an unmarked police car, police said.

The bullet went through windshield around head high on the driver’s side, but nobody inside was injured.

The shooter and a 16-year-old boy were arrested for possession of a firearm and aggravated assault on an officer, police said.

No other information was made available. The suspects’ identities were not released because they are minors.
