Footage covers a section of the northern part of phase II of the LRT line that is currently in parts under construction at Sanmin District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. The construction area adjacent to the median of sections of Dashun 2nd Rd east of Minzu Rd had been fenced off for several months. Clearly visible is the avenue like appearance of Dashun 2nd Rd with plenty of trees (samanea saman aka rain tree) densely shading the road. Views along the alignment include C27 Dingshan Street 鼎山街, C28 Kaohsiung Industrial High School 高雄高工, and C29 Shu-Te Home Economics & Commercial High School 樹德家商 stations.

Site facilities had been mobilized for several hundred meters of construction site including high metal fencing, traffic rerouting, tree guards, and other temporary works. Some excavation works and foundation concreting works were performed over the past months. Recently, those underground structures have been covered and back filled. The asphalt pavement was re-installed, fences were removed and the original traffic lanes were restored. All the site facilities and temporary works will have to be installed again when track work will restart in future . Pavement and soil cover need to be removed before resumption of works on the tracks. This appears to be a rather costly approach. During the non-flood season from November 2022 to May 2023, the track laying project of Dashun 2nd Road Light Rail will reportedly begin.
Background:
At Kaohsiung light rail project's Dashun 2nd Road section the available space for the tracks is rather tight. Public complaints were provoked by the chosen track alignment in the planning phase of the project. Still, stage two of the project got into full swing and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023. Many parking lots along Dashun 2nd Road have been cancelled due to the light rail project. In addition, the road width has been reduced due to the fenced construction site. Businesses face difficulties to unload goods. Lay-bys for temporary stops for loading and unloading passengers and goods have been marked along the road. New nearby parking facilities for cars and scooters will compensate for the loss of roadside parking. Dashun 2nd Road was facing traffic jams already before light rail construction started. The situation may have worsened since. Some commuter traffic detours through small alleys during peak times causing disturbance to the residents there.
High-rise apartment buildings are under construction at many locations in the city. Consequently, more people will live there and need of course means of transport (public and private).
