This weekend, deputies responded to a call from a Deltona resident whose security camera alerted her to two suspects walking around her neighborhood burglarizing vehicles around 3 a.m. Sunday.

While searching the area, deputies tracked down a vehicle that sped off when approached. Other deputies in the area joined in the effort to apprehend the suspects, who eventually bailed out near Halifax Health of Deltona after a deputy successfully deployed stop sticks.

The Aerial Response Team deployed a drone in the area, spotted the suspects and maintained a visual as they headed into a wooded area. With the drone operator guiding K-9 deputies to their location, the suspects were taken into custody without incident.

A loaded 9mm Glock handgun with a conversion kit and magazines were recovered in the road in the area of the bailout, and a follow-up interview with one of the defendants confirmed he threw it out of the vehicle before running into the woods.

Demonta Adkins, 22 (DOB 12/18/1999), of Orlando, was charged with armed burglary, possession of a weapon/ammunition by a convicted felon and resisting an officer without violence. He was still in custody with no bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail as of this writing.

Jeffrey Gilbert, 19 (DOB 3/11/2002), also of Orlando, was charged with armed burglary, two counts of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement and resisting an officer without violence, and was being held on $11,000 bond.
