Though dashcam footage was released, Chief Judice says certain procedures could be worked on. Right now, the department will continue to follow the policy in place.

"If a pursuit happens today, they would follow the policy in place. "

At around 5 p.m. on Dec 2, Duson police were led on a high-speed chase from I-10 in Duson to Bertrand Drive. The drive ended in a crash with multiple vehicles… leaving several people injured.

"We were alerted by our crime camera that a stolen vehicle was traveling eastbound on the interstate ten heading into Duson. So our officers deployed into the area of the Duson portion of I-10," says Police Chief Kip Judice.

Chief Judice said those in the car with the juvenile did not know the vehicle was stolen. They thought it was a present from his grandmother. "They all provided us with information that they were begging the driver to stop. To pull over, they were in fear for their own lives as he was driving extremely dangerously."

The juvenile left the hospital in Lafayette before Duson police officers arrived.

Chief Judice tells NEWS15, he won't be charged as an adult. "If he committed a murder, a rape, capital offense, or a violent crime. Like either shot someone, but this is considered a vehicle accident. Negligence injury."

After reviewing the entire incident, the chief says that the officer was in no violation of the policy.

The Duson Police plan to provide officers with more guidance for chases moving forward. "I have made a priority to review and change won't policy once our committee provides recommendations. So hopefully we won't have any more high-speed if we would follow the policy that we have today," expressed Chief Judice.

There were four other cars that were also hit during the incident. At this time, only one person remains in the hospital. That person was a passenger in the vehicle during the accident.

Chief Judice says that everyone else has been treated and is expected to recover fully. They are hoping for the best for all those that were involved.
