Chanting Harinama 64 Rounds is Difficult for Grihasta like me

Hare Krishna! My name is Madhavendra Puri Das and I am from Punjab. My journey in Krishna bhakti started in year 2008 when I first went to Vrindavan Dham and Srila Prabhupada in his Samadhi Mandir, bestowed his mercy on me and planted seed of Krishna Bhakti in my heart.

Then I read his books and according to his instructions I started following 4 regulative principles and chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra 16 rounds. Just like in every sadhaka’s life most important person is Sri Guru so I used to pray to Lord so I can meet my Guru as early as possible.

This desire of mine got fulfilled in year 2016 when my younger son Gauranga took birth. My son Gauranga had kidney problems from birth, but as Srila Prabhupada said whatever sorrow or struggles in life we get, we should accept as Krishna’s mercy, I also accepted it same way and in reality it was a blessing in disguise.

Because in search of treatment for son’s illness, I came in contact with my Guru Maharaj Sri Dharmavira Das Prabhu. I came to know that there is a Srila Prabhupada’s disciple who stays there and does bhajan and also treats patients through Sanjeevani Energy.

When I contacted him, he said to me that he will give Sanjivani healing to my son but I need to chant 1 lac Harinama daily. Now to chant 1 lac Harinama is difficult for grihasta like me and I had tried in the past but I did not succeed.

So I refused him saying it is very difficult for me but he assured me that he will give Sanjivani healing to my son and also he will give shiksha as how to chant along with his blessings. Then I went to Radha Kund and took shiksha for chanting Mahamantra and received blessing from him.

Due to this I could chant 32 rounds very next day. Then on 25th day I chanted 64 rounds and continuously for 3-4 days I was able to chant 64 rounds. This was very surprising as I was not able to chant earlier and was struggling but after Guru’s blessing I started chanting 64 rounds daily.

Then I realized that from whom I received blessing, he is not an ordinary devotee, he is Lord’s pure devotee and he is Nama Nishtha. As our Acharyas and Srila Prabhupada wrote in their books that we need to associate with pure devotee and chant in his association, and we need to chant under guidance of pure devotee, I also started chanting under guidance of Guruji.

And gradually my wife also took blessing from him and started chanting 1 lac Harinama daily. Later in Kartik month in 2019 Guruji gave us Harinama initiation and accepted us as disciples and we were first devotees whom he gave Harinama initiation.

Chanting early morning at 3am at the banks of Sri Radha Kund, in Guruji's association is an experience beyond words. Our acharyas wrote in books that when we chant in the association of pure devotee then vibrations of Love for Krishna from pure devotee’s heart reach our hearts and purify our hearts and we slowly elevate from Nama apradha or Namabhas chanting towards pure chanting of the holy name.

Guruji also taught us that we should only listen Hari Katha from lips of pure devotee and whether someone is having great knowledge of scriptures or someone is doing melodious kirtan or someone is expert in delivering talks but if he is not pure devotee, if he is not self-realized then we are not going to get much benefit and such person cannot give us Krishna.

Only that person can give us Krishna, who has Krishna. In last 5 years, I have seen many sadhakas taking blessings from Guruji and saw their transition from 16 rounds to 64 rounds and everyone’s experiences are mesmerizing.

I request every sadhaka that pure devotees are very rare but by Lord’s grace if we are getting association of pure devotee then we should not waste that opportunity and we should start our bhajan under guidance of such pure devotee so that in this very life we can see Lord Sri Krishna and go back to Godhead.
