The Quazores an Example
When I came of age I was attracted to a particular group whose values I admired. We'll make this example non-political. Since I'm a fitness enthusiast I'll use it for this example.

The quazores advocated seven pillars of physical fitness; strength, power, agility, coordination, endurance, reflexes and balance. I agreed and joined. I adopted and promoted those pillars and values for many years.

It got to a point that the public knew and associated a Quazore with these seven pillars.

As the years passed and the generational leadership changed, the pillars remained visible to the public, but in practice began to deteriorate. The rhetoric of the larger body strayed away from the original pillars. The brand was eventually diluted destroyed and rebuilt to represent exactly the opposite. Each of the seven original pillars were redefined as to be unrecognizable to their founders.

Quazores came to be recognized as weak, fat, slow, sloppy, mean, arrogant, sneaky and lazy. Yet still espoused Quazorian values.

This example describes what classic old school liberals are experiencing today, imo. An infiltrated party has been ideologically moved away from its core values. For those whom liberalism is indelibly etched into their identity, it's all but impossible to recognize or admit that their club has been hijacked. To the point that liberals cannot bring themselves to define what a woman is.
