APD Air Unit and Officers Team Up to Catch Car Thief Wanted for Homicide

On January 12th, 2022, at approximately 6:15pm, Atlanta Police responded to a call of a stolen vehicle that occurred in the area of Peachtree St and 7th St. NE. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim regarding the stolen vehicle and were advised that the vehicle could be tracked. With the assistance of the Air Unit (Phoenix), officers were able to track the car to the area of Jones Ave. NW.

Upon approach of the vehicle, the suspect exited the car and fled on foot a short distance before attempting to hide in a dumpster, where officers quickly located him. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and later identified as a juvenile murder suspect from an August 30th, 2021, Homicide at 617 Joseph E Boone Blvd.

The Atlanta Police Department is proud of the work of the Z5 officers, Phoenix, and the other units that assisted in the safe apprehension of the suspect in this case. The efforts put forth in investigating a simple property crime proved to be valuable in getting a violent offender off the street.
