A 16-year-old man from Sacramento was arrested on multiple felony charges after ShotSpotter was activated overnight and he was found with a non-serialized gun, authorities said Thursday.

ShotSpotter alerted the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office dispatch center on Thursday just after 12:15 a.m. that there were 13 rounds fired close to each other in a field in south Sacramento County, the office said in a release.

After deputies were dispatched, ShotSpotter detected additional gunfire was heard at a nearby location.

Four suspects were found attempting to flee the area, according to authorities. The driver and three passengers were detained during a traffic stop.

"A non-serialized firearm and ammunition were recovered from one of the juvenile occupants," the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said.

One of the suspects involved was arrested for multiple felonies and misdemeanors stemming from the ShotSpotter activation.

The 16-year-old was taken to the county juvenile hall for carrying a loaded firearm registered to another, possessing a firearm as a minor, concealing the firearm in a vehicle and discharging it in a grossly negligent manner, according to authorities.

He is being held without bail.
