On 5/6/22, officers were conducting a burglary detail in the area of Jonesboro Rd and Moreland Ave when they received a tip that a suspect driving a U-Haul truck believed to be involved in multiple burglaries was in the area. Officers spotted the U-Haul truck and were advised items of evidentiary value may be inside the rear compartment. Officers stopped the vehicle and requested the driver’s identification.

The driver stated that he did not have a license. He was then detained until his identification could be confirmed. The driver was later identified as Nicholas Roberson (DOB 6/73). Roberson is currently on probation; his license is suspended license due to multiple traffic violations and failure to appear.

Upon searching the compartment of the truck, officers located a cell phone, 2 bolt cutters, and 3 tool bags. These items are known to be stolen from various construction sites throughout the city. The U-Haul truck Mr. Roberson was driving was impounded. Roberson has 26 arrest cycles ranging from traffic arrests to property crimes.

He was previously arrested for Theft by Taking after stealing equipment items from a construction site in February 2022. This arrest violated Mr. Roberson’s probation in Henry County and an additional warrant was issued for his arrest as of May 10th. Sometimes routine traffic stops result in arrests of repeat offenders and wanted persons-these efforts help reduce crime and keep our city safe. We applaud the responsiveness of our officers and their professionalism in handling this incident.

Job well done!
