The News-Benders: A High Dose of Predictive Programming from 1968

As its synopsis reads The News-Benders tells the story of an idealistic young television producer (Robert Larkin) who is approached by the representative of a “clandestine agency” (J.G.) offering an unusual job: creating the news – before it happens. And a refusal, it seems, is not an option.

At this point in time anyone with a self-respecting critical mind should have realized that, what is commonly known as “sci-fi” (science fiction) has in reality been “pred-prog” (predictive programming) all throughout the years, most specially since the 1950s. However one should also refer to the term “revelation of the method”:

The News-Benders anticipates the Moon-landing hoaxes, surgical transmitters inserted inside human bodies, future fake wars, the LSD psychological operation, and the “world computer”. They even use the term “fake news” for all that is worth. There is also a clear hint towards psy-ops, now that this method of mind-control has recently come back with a vengeance:

According to the character played by Pleasence the world is controlled by a giant computer system installed at the top of the building from which his organization operates. A computer that has to be fed data and consequently takes “decisions”. All “squared in the shape of a box”… sounding familiar enough?
