Mini update: First day of Spring!

Lori Fiechter on a chilly but sunny first day of Spring. The pepper seedlings are coming along quite well in the shed. Stan just planted the tomato seeds so they should be popping up in another day or two. We are planting grape tomatoes again for the first time in awhile since I found an extra large variety with 2 oz. fruits called "Sugary Hybrid". Oh, dear...I just noticed that the free variety sent by Seeds and Such "Unicorn hybrid" is also a cherry tomato! Looks like I might have to make tomato juice again this year after skipping last year...

Everything, and I mean everything has been pruned now--including the elderberries (to the ground) and triple crown thornless blackberries (3-4 feet). I would like to buy more blackberry plants and asparagus starts at our local Amish greenhouse if they have them. Monday the plan is to buy seed potatoes--it's been awhile since we've grown Yukon Gold, but we're going to try again. We stopped bc they had a problem of hollow, browning centers but we've had poor yields from Katahdin so it's time to try a different variety.

Enjoy this beginning of the growing season, wherever you are!
