E-scooter rider charged after mowing down a police officer

A Brisbane man has spent a night in a police watch house after allegedly mowing down a police officer while riding an e-scooter.

Triston Davidson, 40, was granted bail at the Cleveland Magistrates Court after being charged with seven offences over the collision with the officer at Birkdale yesterday afternoon.

Police allege the Bayside man collided with the officer while riding an e-scooter on the road along Dorsal Drive, despite the officer's efforts to wave him down.

It is alleged Mr Davidson's shopping bags hanging from the e-scooter came in contact with the officer, knocking him to the ground.

The 48-year-old senior constable suffered gravel rash, a swollen neck and a bump on the head.

But police allege Mr Davidson failed to stop and drove home, where he was later arrested after officers used nearby shopping centre CCTV to identify him and track him down.

Police body-cam vision of the incident was recorded and will be submitted to court as part of the brief of evidence.

Mr Davidson was charged with seven offences including dangerous operation of a vehicle, assault or obstruction of a police officer, unlicensed driving, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

The court heard police will allege Mr Davidson modified the private e-scooter and was traveling at speeds of up to 45km/h when the officer tried to wave him down.

The court heard Mr Davidson claimed he did not know who was waving at him, not realising it was a police officer and thought he had been robbed of his groceries in the incident.

Mr Davidson was granted bail on the condition that he refrain from using e-scooters.

His matter will return to court on March 22.
