A candidate for sheriff was banned from a popular restaurant and bar after he caused a ruckus at the establishment Saturday night. Candidate Tony Roberson finds himself marred in a series of recent missteps that could prove costly for his political aspirations.

Roberson, an advertised candidate for Rutherford County sheriff, was banned from Copper Penny in Rutherfordton Saturday after he caused a disturbance inside the place. Rutherfordton police responded to a disturbance call at the Copper Penny around 7:30 p.m.

Three officers, two ranked and one in training, responded to the scene where they found Roberson had already left from inside the bar and restaurant and was then found inside a vehicle. Officers confronted Roberson and advised him the establishment had banned him from returning or he could be charged with the misdemeanor charge of trespassing, according to Rutherfordton police Chief Clint Ingle.
