Queensland officers takes down ATV rider and discovers $100k in cash and drugs

A man and woman have been charged after an ATV intercept by police at Southbank this morning uncovered close to $100,000 in cash as well as dangerous drugs.

Officers were conducting ATV patrols along Grey Street when they observed a motorcycle being ridden by a man with a female pillion passenger around 8.50am.

Police activated emergency lights for the vehicle to pull over, however the motorbike accelerated away at speed before entering the Southbank Parklands on Russell Street, driving past workmen and pedestrians and through fencing.

An officer chased the motorbike on foot before apprehending the male rider, whilst the female passenger fled the scene. The ATV pursued the woman who was taken into custody a short time later.

A subsequent search of the woman’s belongings uncovered approximately $100,000 in vacuum sealed bags as well as multiple mobile phones.

Officers searching the motorbike also located more sealed bags containing a white substance, believed to be methylamphetamine.

A 38-year-old Inala man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, trafficking dangerous drugs, receiving or possessing property obtained from trafficking, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing anything for use in commission of crime, possess property suspected of having been used in the commission of crime and fail to comply with requirement to stop vehicle.

A 33-year-old Collingwood Park woman has been charged with one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, receiving or possessing property obtained from trafficking, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing anything for use in commission of crime and possess property suspected of having been used in the commission of crime.

Both have been refused police bail and are due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow (March 17).
