CHP helicopter airlifts 4 men who were stranded on a sandbar

Friday afternoon, CHP H-32 responded with the United States Coast Guard and the Marin County Fire Department to a report of 4 men who were stranded on a sandbar in Tomales Bay.

H-32 arrived overhead and located the men who were looking for clams.

Apparently their boat drifted away stranding them on the sandbar.
H-32 landed and rescued the men from the sandbar and transported them to a local boat ramp.

Although the men were uninjured, they would have been in serious trouble when the tide returned. Tomales Bay has been the site of numerous drownings in recent years, many of those drownings were due to fishermen looking for clams and being caught by the tide…
