Traffic stops are one of the most dangerous parts of an officer’s day. They never know who is in the car, what they may have, or what the mindset of the driver or passenger is when they walk up to the door. Traffic stops happen every single day for a variety of reasons, from speeding, and red-light violations, to DUIs and stolen vehicle hits. These stops are necessary to keep the city safe, and they make a difference in our efforts to reduce crime and locate wanted persons.

The officers in this incident showed their professionalism and training down to the last detail. These are the daily encounters that never make the headlines, but these unsensational encounters are key to crime reduction and public safety. We are proud of how these officers handled this incident and the work they all do each day. Another stolen gun off the streets and another wanted person held to account for their actions. Job well done!

On March 11, 2022, at around 3:30 PM, officers with APD’s TITAN unit conducted a traffic stop on a reckless driver in the area of Metropolitan Parkway and Cleveland Avenue in Southwest Atlanta. During the stop, officers found the driver had a suspended license and the passenger had an active warrant for his arrest out of Monroe County for failure to appear on a weapon possession charge. Both were taken into custody without incident. After the arrest, officers located a firearm under the passenger’s seat. The firearm was found to have been stolen out of DeKalb County. The driver was taken to City Jail and the passenger was taken to the Fulton County Jail.
