On March 9, 2022, an APD supervisor observed a vehicle driving the wrong way on a one-way. He approached the vehicle and eventually flagged down a Zone 6 marked patrol vehicle to assist. The driver was not cooperative but was eventually taken into custody without injury.

Throughout the encounter, the driver was failed to comply with the officer’s instructions, became belligerent toward officers, and resisted arrest, but the officers remained patient and professional, nonetheless. After the arrest, officers recovered a handgun and narcotics from the vehicle.

Getting this impaired driver off the streets, likely averted an accident or serious injury to himself or others. We are proud of the professionalism displayed and the effective manner the officers worked together to take the suspect into custody without incident. This is what it means when we say our officers work, day and night, to keep our city and citizens safe. It is all in a day’s work.

Arrestee: 49-year-old Barry Gay

Charges: DUI, Obstruction, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony, Reckless Driving, and Driving Wrong Way on a One Way.
