Our Livestock Guardian Pup is Getting BIG!

Virgil, our young livestock guardian dog, had a check-up and wow, he is growing! Our 17 week old Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix is up to 41 lbs. The veterinarian told us he was going to be big and Virgil is well on his way to proving her right.

When Virgil grows up he will live with our goats, keeping watch over the herd and providing protection against predators – coyotes are the primary concern in our area. Guarding livestock is instinctual for dogs like him but his instincts need to be groomed so he applies them properly. For now, Virgil is spending a lot of time with his goats so he can build a bond with them, while also being kept at a safe enough distance so he doesn’t chase and play like puppies are known to do.

Megan also takes you on a quick tour of the greenhouse to update you on how our seedlings are doing. So much has sprouted in the past few weeks! It won’t be much longer until we transplant our seedlings and our garden will be off and running!
