Prepping Seed Potatoes 3-23-21

Today was our first 70 degree day this year! But no, we're not planting potatoes out in the garden yet! We bought seed potatoes yesterday and Stan decided to give them a head start by growing them first in some loose topsoil and then planting them--the same thing he did last year with the lima beans. They need to dry out a tad first, so he will probably prep-plant them tomorrow.

We bought 10# each of Yukon Gold, Dark Red Norland, and Kennebec. Hoping for better results this year--we've been using the same fertilizer for potatoes as for sweet corn which was a mistake. Sweet corn needs lots of nitrogen (hence the 16-16-16 fertilizer) but potatoes do not--we get lovely plants with not much underneath. We'll use something more like 5-10-10 this year.
