The Clark County School District Police Department (CCSD PD) said a juvenile is in custody after driving a car into a Western High School student leading to police opening fire.

Police released body camera footage on Tuesday from last week’s incident outside Western High School near Decatur and Bonanza.

In the video, the school officer yells at the students to get out of the way as a speeding Ford Fusion is seen approaching them, with one student getting hit.

Officer Christopher Knight is heard on tape yelling at students to get out of the way, while also ordering the driver of the car to stop.

As many as 300 students were walking out to the buses on the east side of campus when someone inside the car flashed a gun at the crowd.

Officer Knight says he was forced to shoot when a car drove directly at students in the parking lot.

There were four passengers in the speeding car, two were hit by gunfire including the driver, and both were treated for minor injuries.

Police say the suspects are not enrolled in the district but came to campus for a fight.

“There had been some trash talk on social media,” says CCSD Lt. Bryan Zink. “They were there for that reason.”He said none of the juveniles are CCSD students, and a gun was found in the car.

Zink says the student who was run over was treated and released from the scene.

Investigators later found a gun inside the suspect's vehicle.

“Upon release from the hospital, the driver was booked into juvenile detention and charged with battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon on school property, and then, disregard for public safety,” Zink said.

The other three juveniles in the car have not been charged but the investigation is ongoing.

This was the first police shooting on a CCSD campus since 2005.
