On Saturday, March 26, 2022, Deputy Robert Young observed a stolen vehicle in the 2800 block of SE 52nd Street and followed it to the parking lot of the Circle K gas station at 5201 S Pine Avenue. Santiago Lemus (H/M, DOB: 03/13/1985), who was driving the stolen vehicle, attempted to hide from Deputy Young by parking behind the gas station.

Once Deputy Young entered the parking lot, Lemus drove away at a high rate of speed and returned to SE 52nd Street. A traffic stop was initiated and Lemus failed to stop. He fled for several minutes before the vehicle ultimately began to slow down.

Deputy Young attempted a P.I.T. maneuver, but Lemus maintained control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled to a complete stop a short distance away and it was discovered that the vehicle had run out of gas. Lemus was taken into custody and advised he fled because he had a warrant.

Lemus was arrested for Fleeing to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer (Sirens and lights activated with high speed or reckless driving), Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Driving with a Suspended License (DWLSR), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Failure to Appear – DWLSR (the warrant). He was given a ride to the Gold Star Hotel, where he is held with a $19,000 bond.
