Bradford police officer knocked off motorbike in police chase

Police footage has revealed the shocking moment when a Bradford officer was thrown off his motorcycle in a police chase.

Disqualified driver Isaac Nunney, a 23-year-old who had a previous conviction for dangerous driving, deliberately knocked the officer off his motorcycle mid-pursuit.

As he slid across the road, PC Peter Brown was left "terrified he was about to be run over" while his body was covered in cuts and bruises.

West Yorkshire Police decribed Nunney's actions as inexcusable, describing the case as a "clear warning to those who think they can assault or endanger our police officers or staff".

Nunney was jailed at Bradford Crown Court for three years after he admitted attempting to cause the officer grievous bodily harm with intent and driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Chief Superintendent Robert McCoubrey, Bradford District Commander, said: “The actions taken by Nunney were totally inexcusable. I hope that [the case's] outcome serves as a clear warning to those who think they can assault or endanger our police officers or staff and get away with it.

“Thankfully the officer involved has since returned to full duties in Bradford. He and his Operation Steerside colleagues continue to work hard to make the roads of Bradford District safer for everyone.”

The incident took place on April 23, 2021, when PC Brown started pursuing Nunney as he drove a red Mini through Bradford's Holme Wood estate.

PC Brown, an officer from the Steerside Enforcement Team at Bradford District, said the Mini slowed and the officer activated his lights and sirens.

After the Mini initially accelerated, Nunney stopped the car and reversed towards the officer who was able to avoid it by driving by.

Mr Campbell said the officer, who was now in front, was able to see Nunney put his hood up and tightened the drawstrings to obscure his face before he accelerated forwards and deliberately turned the Mini towards the officer.

The court heard how PC Brown tried to avoid a collision by driving away, but after a short distance his machine was crashed into by the Mini and he was thrown from his motorbike.

Nunney was quickly identified and arrested, following an investigation into the incident by the Bradford District Crime Team.
