An armed man with warrants out for his arrest in connection with violent crimes was shot during a confrontation with law enforcement officers in Hemet on Wednesday, March 2, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

Edgar Alejandro Solis, 35, of Hemet, was booked into Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside after being treated for his injuries. He was being held in lieu of $1.5 million bail.

The shooting happened at about 4:10 p.m. in the 600 block of North Taschner Drive as members of the Riverside County Gang Task Force searched for Solis, a news release said. Solis was wanted for carjacking, robbery and drugs and weapons violations.

As officers attempted to contact Solis, he drove a short distance before getting out of his car and running.

“Deputies and officers chased the armed suspect through several yards and onto a property in the 600 block of Hillmer Drive. Once on the property, a deputy- and officer-involved shooting occurred,” the release said. “A firearm was located at the scene.”

The officers who fired work for the Sheriff’s Department and California Highway Patrol. They were placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard in such shootings.

No officers were reported injured.

An investigator from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office will lead the review of the shooting, assisted by the sheriff’s Force Investigations Detail, to determine with the officers acted lawfully.
