This afternoon, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Helicopter “Henry-1” and CHP - Golden Gate Division Air Operations Helicopter H30 worked together to rescue a person who was in medical distress after sustaining a traumatic injury while hiking on the east side of Mt. Tamalpais.

H30 was able to skid offload their TFO/Paramedic onto the trail in order to facilitate rapid patient care. It should be noted that a skid offload occurs when the surrounding terrain doesn’t allow a helicopter to completely land, but does allow the pilot to put down one of the helicopter’s skids in order to offload a crew member.

After making patient contact, CHP’s TFO/Paramedic requested Henry-1 perform a long line rescue of the patient.

H1’s TFO was flown onto the trail, via 100 foot long line, where the patient was subsequently packaged into a rescue device. The patient, CHP’s TFO/Paramedic, and H1’s TFO were then flown to the parking lot located on top of Mt. Tamalpais, where the patient was transferred to a ground ambulance and later transported to a local area hospital.

Today was another prime example that time and again the CHP and Sonoma Sheriff’s helicopter programs complement one another which ultimately benefits the communities we serve.
