APD’s zone officers spend their shift responding to 911 calls. They show up ready to respond to every type of call imaginable. This incident is reflective of what they do each day. On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, officers responded to 771 Myrtle St NE on a report of a pedestrian robbery.

At the scene, officers found the victim, a 17-year-old female, and several witnesses. The victim told the officers she was walking to a friend’s house when a vehicle pulled up to her and a female suspect got out, armed with a knife, grabbed her, and demanded her belongings. A male suspect, armed with an electrical stun-gun, then got out and grabbed the victim by the throat and also demanded her belongings.

The victim refused, and the suspects knocked the victim down and began kicking her while taking her purse. Bystanders in the area saw the attack and began approaching as the suspects got back into the vehicle and fled. Witnesses were able to give a description and tag information on the suspect vehicle.

The officers broadcast a description of the vehicle and suspects to other units in the area, and responding officers began to search for the suspects. An officer in the area accessed the license plate readers and cameras and found the suspect vehicle, giving the location to other officers. The vehicle was stopped by officers near Martin Luther King Jr Dr. and Joseph E Lowery Blvd. A male driver and female passenger in the car were detained and shortly thereafter, both were identified by the victim as the two people who robbed her.

Officers recovered some of the victim’s stolen property, a knife, and an electronic stun gun from the suspects’ vehicle. We want to thank the Zone 5 officers for the quick response to the robbery call, their attention to detail, and the solid police protocol that led to the timely arrest of these suspects. The city is safer with our officers on patrol and these two suspects behind bars. Job well done!
