On Sunday April 17, 2022, at about 3:50 p.m. an off-duty Atlanta Police officer was driving near Ted Turner Dr NW and Peachtree Pl when he observed two juvenile males in a parking lot who appeared to be breaking into cars. The officer, who was in uniform but driving his personal car, radioed other units in the area and they responded.

When marked patrol cars began to arrive in the area the two juveniles began to leave on a scooter. When officers told them to stop one suspect, age 15, hopped off the scooter and ran on foot. Officers pursued the juvenile and eventually, the off-duty officer, found the suspect near Williams St and Andrew Young International Blvd. As the officer approached the suspect pulled a loaded firearm from under his jacket and tried to hide it under a car but the officer spotted the action. The suspect was arrested and the pistol was safely retrieved.

At the time of his arrest, in addition to the pistol, the suspect was carrying $190 in cash, two Apple iPhones, an Apple Watch, and a black mask. The suspect was charged with Entering an Auto, Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Pistol by a Person Under 18, Reckless Conduct, and Obstruction.

We applaud the work of all our officers, on duty and off. It is their attention to detail and police training which helps to reduce crime and keep Atlanta safe. This incident could have easily taken a turn for the worse, but we are glad that these officers were able to make this arrest without incident. Job well done!
