Traffic stops are a critical part of crime fighting, they also can be one of the most dangerous interactions in an officer’s shift. On any given day, officers identify people driving under the influence, wanted persons, drugs, and stolen guns during traffic stops.

The APD Field Investigative Teams (F.I.T), specialized traffic units and our patrol officers stay alert and mentally prepared to manage stops. On April 4, 2022, officers with the Zone 3 F.I.T. unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for driving across the median near 490 Glenn St. SW.

Upon approaching the vehicle, officers smelled a strong odor of raw marijuana and immediately detained the driver. Upon the detention, officers recovered a firearm from the right pocket of the driver. Officers identified the driver, as Bobby Clark. The firearm in his possession was confirmed to be stolen out of Columbus, GA in 2016.

Bobby Clark was placed in custody following the recovery of the stolen firearm. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered nearly 510 grams of marijuana.

Mr. Clark was charged accordingly and transported to the Fulton County Jail without incident. We would like to take the time to thank and commend our Zone 3 F.I.T. officers for a job well done and recovering another stolen firearm from off the street that could have been used in a future offense.

We appreciate the work that our officers do each day. The city of Atlanta is safer with APD on patrol.
