Authorities on Thursday released body cam video of an incident two weeks ago in which a deputy from the Pierce County Sheriff's Office shot and wounded a Parkland man after responding to a possible child abuse in progress call.

The 54-year-old man, who has not been publicly identified, was booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault following his arrest on April 15.

It was not immediately clear Thursday if bond has been set in the case or if the suspect was still in jail in connection with the the incident.

Authorities identified Deputy Jared Beem, 25, as the law enforcement officer who shot the suspect, who was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening shoulder wound, according to a written statement.

Deputies were called to the Byrn Mar Apartments, located in the 200 block of 125th Street S., around 8 p.m. to investigate a "child abuse in progress" call.

The man's 10-year-old son called 911 to report their father had been drinking and was trying to hit him and his 9-year-old brother, according to the statement. The two boy were locked in a bedroom in the apartment before they were taken from the home by deputies through a window.

After the children were removed from the apartment, the man can be seen pointing a handgun out the window at deputies, who opened fire on the suspect. The man called 911 to report he had been shot although he refused to leave the apartment, authorities said.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., the man voluntarily exited the apartment and was taken into custody. No deputies were hurt during the incident.

Beem has been placed on routine administrative leave while the incident is investigated by the Pierce County Force Investigation Team.
