La Catedral (3 Versions) — Agustín Barrios

31

The story goes that, inspired by his hero J.S. Bach, Barrios wrote La Catedral after visiting a cathedral in Montevideo, Uruguay. The first two movements are meant to evoke the yearning, contemplation, and reverence inside the church, while the last evokes the worldly hustle and bustle outside after leaving the cathedral. The Preludio Saudade was written about 20 years after the first two movements.
