On Thursday, May 5, 2022, at around 12:30 A.M. officers responded to 87 Peachtree St. SW on a report of a missing person. The complainant in the case told officers that her 74-year-old aunt was missing.

The aunt has been diagnosed with dementia and has wandered out of the apartment before. The responding officer began canvassing the area around the apartment complex but was not able to locate her. Other units and investigators responded to help.

The missing woman’s description was broadcast and shared with other area law enforcement agencies. APD officers also began searching for the woman on the Department’s network of cameras.

While carefully reviewing footage, officers found video of the missing woman boarding a MARTA bus near Memorial and Pryor St and contacted MARTA PD. MARTA PD was able to give route information to APD and, at around 4:00 A.M., APD officers located the woman near the Lakewood MARTA Station much to everyone’s relief.

The Atlanta Police Department is extremely proud of the work of the Zone 5 and Zone 3 morning watch officers and investigators who searched for hours to find this missing and endangered woman. Their use of available technology and ability coordinate with Marta officers contributed greatly to preventing what could have been a tragedy.

We appreciate the citizen’s thoughtful message to our team and are glad that we could assist in finding their loved one and be instrumental in returning her home safely. We would also like to thank MARTA PD for their assistance in this case.
