Building a Healthy Church: Sound Doctrine and Godly Living, Titus 2:1-10

This passage is probably the second most well-known in the letter.
“Titus 2” is often used in reference to women’s ministry, especially inter-generational mentoring. This passage is that, but it is so much more!
Paul starts out this section with “As for you.” He’s just spent much ink warning about destructive and deceiving teachers that are going to try to overturn the church. They are to be silenced, but Titus is to speak up.
Titus is to actively teach, to proclaim, what accords with sound doctrine—what encourages and affirms healthy doctrine. He is to teach his people to live righteously. Righteous living is the practical outgrowth of healthy doctrine.
Righteous living glorifies our Savior, and it is also our first and most obvious tool for evangelism.
Our responsibility in the modern church is no different. (It is shockingly the same!) We are to proclaim the truth of God’s Word (in a wicked world) with the purpose developing righteous living (that will point lost people to the Savior).
Our passage deals with 3 groups—older believers, younger believers, and serving believers (Paul is talking about slaves, but we can apply much of the teaching to our jobs and other areas of service.)
