Bodycam shows murder suspect arrested in Atlanta

It’s been a little over a month since the homicide on Argus Circle occurred and APD homicide detective K. Franklin went to work investigating the case. As of May 14, 2022, the suspect wanted in that case, has been arrested. Mekhi McKinney (9/2003) was taken into custody by Zone Four FIT Units. After being interviewed by Homicide Investigators, he was taken to Fulton County Jail without incident.

This case is closed by arrest.

Removing this dangerous offender off the street is another example of how proactive policing works. Zone Four FIT knew the bad actors committing crimes within their Zone and were able to execute an arrest and assist in providing closure for the family. Thank you, Investigator Franklin, the Homicide Unit, and Zone Four FIT, for your work on this case. Job well done! Violent criminals are on notice that if you commit a crime in Atlanta, the men and women of APD will find you and take you to jail.

On Friday, April 8, 2022, Zone One Officers were dispatched to a male shot at 245 Argus Cir NW. Responding officers located a male with a gunshot wound to his midsection laying in the front yard and he was transported to Grady Hospital in critical condition. Despite lifesaving attempts, he succumbed to his injuries. The decedent was identified as, Qwantavius Nigee Harris.

The Aggravated Assault Unit and the Homicide Unit simultaneously responded to the crime scene and upon the expiration of the decedent, Homicide took the primary responsibility. The scene was processed by Crime Scene Technicians. Representatives from the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office were notified and responded to the scene. Detective K. Franklin will lead the investigation.

Warrant Update: On Monday, April 25, 2022, Detective Kindu Franklin was able to establish probable cause and secure arrest warrants for Mekhi McKinney (9/2003) for the charge of Felony – Murder (16-5-1), Aggravated Assault (16-5-21), and Armed Robbery (16-8-41).
