The Ten Commandments
01. Thou shall have no other gods before me.
God is not silver nor gold, nor the work of the hand of man. You cannot serve both God and money.
02. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
God has no shape or form and is utterly incomparable; thus no idol, image, idea, or anything in creation could ever capture God's essence.
03. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
Do not pretend to serve in His name while failing to do so. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
04. Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy.
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
05. Honor thy father and mother.
Love you mother and father always, they, through god, brought you into the world.
06. Thou shalt not kill.
We human beings were made in the image of God. Therefore to murder a person is to murder God.
07. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
During marriage the couple become no longer two, but of one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no man must separate.
08. Thou shalt not steal.
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
09. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
It is expected to uphold truth, at all times and in all places, without exception. Slander and gossip are equally evil, and the initial speaker is responsible for any further damage caused as the report is spread.
10. Thou shalt not covet.
Take care, and be on your guard against all wanting, for life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.
Were the 10 commandments just for Israel or were they for the whole of mankind..?
AND are Israel The favoured of GOD does GOD consider the rest of Manking to be lesser than Israel?
The Commandments were given so people know how to live, and God promised that if they followed them, their lives would be blessed. Moses said, Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days.
The Ten Commandments are sometimes called the covenant because they were the basis of the entire contract between God and Israel. They were not the entirety of the law of God and Moses, just the first part of the contract which was spoken audibly by God.
