I am speaking in my capacity as a private citizen, and not in my capacity as a board member. These statements are also not representative of the board or its individual members.

Here is a short clip of a Board who truly values the health and well being of the children. I implore you to stand up for your community as a parent/teacher/board member or just a member of the community who cares. Garwood has really stepped up, but the parents speaking out helped it happen...I pray that our leaders will have the strength to continue Garwood's courage and rise up for the sake of our children, our future..

Garwood NJ BOE Meeting May 17, 2022 Highlights clip (26 minute clip) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVDAXfrGJYU (age restricted video) The 2020 New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Comprehensive Health & Physical Education were passed during Covid lock downs, where many New Jersey parents were distracted or unable to participate in their review. Understandably, there has been a tremendous push back from the parents across New Jersey due to the Sex Ed curriculum and the age level inappropriateness. The parents of Garwood, NJ decided to do something about it. After creating a Facebook Group, they formulated a plan and coordinated to speak up at the Board of Ed meeting. A resolution was proposed and the board members voted on it. The final result was 7-2 victory! Garwood, NJ has decided to NOT adopt the Sex Ed curriculum!

This video is only a portion of the meeting. Several parents packed the meeting and many spoke up, including parents that planned on only attending, but were moved by the topic and the atmosphere of togetherness.

Resolution by Garwood, NJ BOE

Whereas the Garwood BOE intends not to adopt the curriculum set forth by the NJ Student Learning Standards covered under the comprehensive health and physical education 2020 NJSLS-CHPE,

Whereas, should we allow the proposed say curriculum to move forward, the impact it would have in classrooms would allow the school district to demonstrate topics inclusive of sexual activity such as oral sex, anal sex, masturbation and gender to be discussed with children at various grade levels to comply with the curriculum standards

Whereas, the standards set forth are extreme and age inappropriate and were adopted by the NJ State Board of Education.

Therefore, be it resolved that the Garwood BOE of the Borough of Garwood does not adopt the curriculum set forth by the New Jersey Student Learning Standards covered under the Comprehensive Health and Physical Education at 2020 NJSLS-CHPE.
