Dan Markel Murder for Hire Retrial - Florida v. Katherine Magbanua | Day 4, Part One

In 2019, a jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict in the 2014 shooting death of FSU professor Dan Markel. Magbanua was on trial with Sigfredo Garcia, the father of her children. Garcia was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Prosecutors argued at trial that Magbanua was an intermediary in a plot to end the victim’s life. She got Garcia to do it, who in return recruited Luis Rivera for backup, investigators said. Markel was murdered in his garage.
