Why Relapses and Remissions in Chronic Inflammation?

Dr. William J. Murphy is a scientist with extensive experience with immune and the cancer system interactions. His knowledge of immunology is desperately needed for the chronic illnesses we are observing now a days. I have three questions to run by Dr. Murphy:
Why do we get relapses and remissions in some chronic inflammatory conditions?
What is the way to get rid fo the cells that are continuously making inflammatory molecules and antibodies?
For the vaccine trials what is the importance of mice test in older age mice?

Brief bio of Dr. Murphy:
My research for the past 30 years has centered on translational studies involving modeling cancer-immune system interactions starting with my earlier studies on NK cells and HSCT in mouse models and later at the National Cancer Institute on their role in cancer immunotherapy which then expanded to issues in immunotherapy in general.
