Seattle City Council OKs $12M for Hotel Rooms, Tiny Homes for Unsheltered Residents

The Seattle City Council on Monday approved new funding to house the homeless, with the hope that Mayor Jenny Durkan's office will lease 200 hotel rooms and build some tiny homes to provide shelter for the homeless.

With a 9-0 vote, council members unanimously approved $12 million for the project with the anticipation that the city will be reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but there’s no guarantee.

“There is no 100 percent guarantee of 100 percent reimbursement,” council President Lorena Gonzales said. "But I think there’s an opportunity we can get a reimbursement --even if it's partial is critically important.”’
