MOMN Meeting 5-21-22 with Nurse Natalie Barnes, Kimberly Overton and Scott Schara

It was our most emotional meeting. Kevin Tuttle, director of Public Relations for "Our amazing Grace, introduced Scott Schara, a dad who lost his beloved daughter Grace. Scott Schara shared the story of the death of his daughter Grace, due to hospital protocols, that he believes killed her. He has been on the Highwire and has a website dedicated to her story, and those of others. The website is "OuramazingGrace.net". From the constant fight to remain with Grace as her advocate, to the hospital's refusal to resuscitate her even after the family's pleas, his journey is paved with pain. The family fought for Grace every step of the way, but they could not overcome the lack of empathy and greed of the hospital. The inhumane treatment of Grace, which led to her ultimate demise, was tragically illuminated by Scott. Scott is involved in legal action and is now an activist helping bring Grace's story, and that of many others into the light.

Our own local Nurse Natalie Barnes talked about her frustration with the disregard for medical freedom. Working in the system, she could no longer participate in it's abject failure. The complete disregard for medical freedom and human life made her decide to abandon the system. She is stepping into the arena and becoming active in the best way possible. She is running for MN State Senate. Nurse Natalie received the Republican endorsement over Eric Pratt (a previous MOMN speaker). Nurse Natalie wants to help cure all the ailments that have befallen the MN State Senate!

Kimberly Overton founder of "Freedom Nurse Network" shared her story. She worked as a nurse but chose to quit her lucrative career, because she could no longer sit by and watch hospital protocols abandon individuals. She could no longer sit by the bedside of individuals she felt did not have to die. She could no longer watch hospital staff abandon their own medical knowledge in favor of ineffective and sometimes deadly protocols. She founded the "Nurse Freedom Network" which provides nurses with alternative career paths, independence, and resources. It also provides networking opportunities, and has a plethora of helpful information. Kimberly wants to build a parallel system where government is kept out of healthcare, so the focus becomes the patient, and not the money. Check out her Substack Nurses' Notes.

Paula Anderson, a health care worker, shared her vaccine injury story. Though we are being told vaccine injuries are rare, and most of the time just a coincidence, it sure didn't feel that way to Paula. She talked about a blood clot in her lungs after the first shot. After her second shot, she had numerous blood clots, and other issues. She is no longer able to be active, and has abandoned all her hobbies. Because of the blood thinners she is required to take to prevent further blood clots, her husband won't even let her cut vegetables. Paula feels utterly abandoned, as Mayo Clinic and other providers have not made her condition a priority. Of course, it's just a coincidence!

Last but not least, we heard from attorney Marjorie Holsten, who was propelled into national fame when she took up the case involving Scott Quiner. Allina Health wanted to pull the plug on Scott over his family's objection. He was in the hospital with Covid, but the hospital refused to try medications and treatments outside of the protocols. Marjorie, who typically does not engage in this type of work, filed a Restraining Order to prevent Allina health from literally killing Scott. She was victorious. Unfortunately, the hospital protocol for Covid, and their refusal to treat him, lead to Scott's ultimate demise. The hospital in Texas, which he was transferred to, is now facing repercussions for treating Scott. What a world we live in, when "do no harm" is interpreted as "pull the plug". Since Marjorie took this case, her law license has been attacked, similar to many of the doctors we know that advocate for patients. Necessity creates heroes, and she sure is one!

These individuals are showing us how we can turn tragedies into activism. Don't just complain, do something! Not everyone can do everything, but everyone can do something!
