Brazil to build own aircraft carrier

Brazilian Defense Celso Amorim, the country plans to build an aircraft carrier with foreign partners as part of efforts to increase the military readiness of Marinha do Brasil (Brazilian Navy).

The idea is to build it in Brazil, maybe based on an existing project," Amorim told a group of foreign correspondents. Latin America's largest nation will need a new aircraft carrier within 15 years and will modernize existing ones in the meantime, Amorim said.

Over the past few years, French shipbuilder DCNS has showcased its DEAC Carrier project. According to DCNS, DEAC is based on the French Navy's Charles de Gaulle CVN design and flight system.

It is capable of providing power projection, sea control, and air defense. The carrier is compatible with all CTOL aircraft (including Airborne Early Warning aircraft) and features the latest technologies including state-of-the-art Combat Systems, UAV integration, advanced conventional propulsion and advanced platform stabilization systems.
