UKRAINE says it won't agree to a ceasefire with Russia and that Kyiv won't sign any deal with Moscow that would mean giving up territory.

Mykhailo Podolyak, a presidential adviser, said that making concessions would backfire on Ukraine because Russia would hit back harder after any break in the fighting. He said this while acknowledging that Kyiv's stance on the war was becoming more hard-line.

"As soon as we made a deal with the Russian Federation, the war would get worse. So, the war won't end. It will just be put on hold for a while," he told Reuters in an interview in the heavily guarded presidential office, where sandbags are used to protect some windows and corridors.

"After a while, with renewed vigor, the Russians will build up their weapons and manpower, fix their mistakes, modernize a little, and fire a lot of generals... And they'll start a new offensive that will be even bloodier and bigger, learning from their past mistakes.
