British Foreign Minister Liz Truss said Britain and its allies are considering sending modern weapons to Moldova, among the fears of Russia's war in Ukraine in the neighboring Eastern European country.

Earlier this month, Council of Europe President Charles Michel said the European Union plans to boost its support for armed forces in Moldova following a series of explosions reported in Transdinyester, a separatist region on the country's Ukrainian border. Moldovan president Maia Sandu described the incidents as alarming after a Russian commander said one goal of the war in Ukraine was to open a path to Transdinyester, which is home to Russian troops. Although these comments are unclear whether they represent the official Russian policy, they have received a reaction from Moldova.

"I would like to equip Moldova with NATO standards," Kremlin warned in an interview with the daily Telegraph on Friday that his ambitions could go beyond Ukraine. "This is an argument we have with our allies."

According to the report, the plans could include members of the NATO military alliance, sending weapons to Moldova instead of Soviet-era equipment, and training soldiers to use new weapons.
