When Brian Kemp signed SB 202 to overhaul the Georgia election system on March 26, 2021, all hell broke loose. Georgia Senate Minority Leader Gloria Butler likened the bill to Jim Crow; Stacey Abrams called it voter suppression. CNN's Brianna Keilar said that the bill was the culmination of Trump's "Big Lie." The bill has been widely panned as a totem to Jim Crow in general, with a Philadelphia Inquirer columnist critiquing a plantation picture in the backdrop of Brian Kemp's signing ceremony. The bill is also considered as an assault on voting rights, with measures like restricting the number of drop boxes in any given locality and requiring Photo ID for absentee ballots. Mr. Watson, however, asks his viewers (as he always does) to consider the finer details of this bill in relation to its fundamental principles. Mr. Watson asks a simple question: Is voting a right? After establishing a certain answer, he divines a "reasonability standard" and uses it to determine if the measures laid out in SB 202 are irresponsible or responsible. He then proceeds to argue that we should be fighting for a more principled political system, and we can only do that through proper understanding of these issues.
