What is effective communication? Effective communication is being able to talk about what is necessary to get your point across to the other person that you are experienced enough in life to be able to converse effectively outside the limitations of what you're a professional at.

Effective communication can be the difference maker in growing a meaningful network to that of just "meeting" other people. If you can effectively communicate in the sense that you are building a relationship with the person you're speaking with, then you have the opportunity to be able to benefit from the newly formed relationship as opposed to just having a one time meet and greet and then you never talk to that person ever again because they didn't find you knowledgeable in basic communication concerning outside topics that are separate from what you normally talk about.

Study, learn, absorb the world around you so that you can communicate effectively when the need arises. Understand what is going on in the world, understand the people that you're talking to and the things that they are interested in, you'll be glad that you did.
