Successful Failures - E84

There is a LOT in this episode!
We’ve been planning to make a switchback in the road at the Kentucky site since we were hiking in March. We even took down a couple of small trees to mark the area. In April we went back down with the plan to put in a culvert. In the meantime our neighbor tells us the beavers have put in another dam. We arrive and it’s true. The water is higher than last year and all the progress made in the lower section is gone.
Bryce gets the tractor stuck. Really stuck! Probably not a good idea to have Pat’s quick hitch on (or at least remove the U-Bolts) when having the backhoe on. He also puts a dent in the truck--not in the video. ;)
The chainsaw blade gets pinched by a tree that wants to fall the wrong way. But hey, this tree is 62’ long after cutting off the top!
We get the chainsaw running again and we get more trees cut.
Two of the trail cams decided not to work!
From the air it’s still hard to see what all trees have been cut just because there are so many.
The Hercules SDS Max drill from Harbor Freight successfully drills holes in the limestone. It runs pretty well off the 2000 watt generator.
We also find out the RK25 is very tippy on a grade when the backhoe is on. We have to find weights for the front end.
By the end of the two days working we have the culvert in!
Our focus is going to be on the upper section of the property and removing the beavers since breaking the dams are just repaired the next day.
We are making progress!
Jump ahead to 24:00 if you want to see the tree falling!
